UN Treaty Monitoring and International Work
Scotland is signed up to many international human rights obligations, set out in laws, treaties and conventions, as part of the United Kingdom. As an accredited ‘A Status’ national human rights institution, the Commission helps to monitor the impact of international human rights treaties in Scotland.
We work with civil society organisations to find out about issues and concerns, and we collate and analyse this evidence before reporting it to the relevant UN Committee.
The Commission also has speaking rights at the UN Human Rights Council, which is responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe.
