Statement on Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission
Yesterday the Commission learned with great sadness and shock of the death of two members of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) and the injury of six other members of staff. The staff members were travelling to work at the AIHRC’s regional office in Nangerhar Province in the east of Afghanistan when their minibus was attacked by a landmine.
In sending his condolences Professor Alan Miller said: “Please accept and share with all of our dear friends and colleagues within AIHRC, as well the families and friends of all of those affected, my deepest personal sympathies and solidarity in these times. I know that all of our members throughout the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions will be thinking of the victims and their families, and all of the hugely respected human rights defenders within the AIHRC."
