European human rights institutions issue statement on continuing tragedies in the Mediterranean Sea
The European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) has issued a statement in response to the rising number of migrant deaths in the Mediterranean Sea.
The statement from the ENNHRI, which the Scottish Human Rights Commission chairs, notes that ‘since January 2015 at least 1,550 people have died in their attempt to cross the Mediterranean, in search of safety or a better life’.
