Commission welcomes Scottish Social Security Charter
The Scottish Human Rights Commission has welcomed the Scottish Government's publication of the Scottish Social Security Charter, which will now be considered for approval by the Scottish Parliament.
Judith Robertson, Chair of the Commission, said:
"We welcome that the new Scottish Social Security Charter recognises social security is a human right. The Charter seeks to empower people accessing the service and ensure the system is responsive to people's rights. Recognising that social security is a human right is a first step to ensuring accountability and that people have redress when things go wrong. We also welcome that the Charter was developed with people with lived experience of using social security - this kind of participation is a crucial element of a human rights based approach."
