Commission welcomes Jan Savage as new Executive Director
The Scottish Human Rights Commission is pleased to announce that Jan Savage will take up post as Executive Director on January 4th 2023.
Ms Savage joins the Commission from the charity ENABLE Scotland, where she has been Director for 10 years. She brings a wealth of experience in leadership, human rights, advocacy and participation work, with a particular focus on human-rights based campaigns to achieve real change.
Her new post as Executive Director of the Commission is a key leadership position. It includes shaping the delivery of operational and strategic priorities across the breadth of the Commission’s work to promote and protect human rights in Scotland.
Chair of the Scottish Human Rights Commission, Ian Duddy, says:
“I am delighted to welcome Jan Savage to the Commission. Her strategic experience and proven commitment to human rights in Scotland make her an ideal appointment to the role and the whole team is hugely looking forward to working with her.”
Jan Savage says:
"I am honoured and excited to be joining the Scottish Human Rights Commission as its first Executive Director.
"We live in complex political and economic times, creating some of the most challenging circumstances ever facing our human rights – and relentlessly impacting on those whose human rights were already most at risk.
"The potential for a powerful, robust and accessible Commission to work to uphold these rights is huge, and more necessary than ever as we face an evolving legislative landscape at Holyrood and Westminster.
"I look forward to working with the Chair, the Commissioners, the talented Commission team, our networks, collaborators, and people whose rights are most at risk themselves, to lead a new era of impact and influence at the Commission to defend and promote the human rights of all Scotland’s citizens."
