From 10 December 2008 to April 2009, staff from the Commission travelled the length and breadth of Scotland to consult and gather feedback on our Draft Strategic Plan. This exercise was invaluable, and the comments and feedback received helped to shape the final Strategic Plan.

Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR): the Equality Bill

June 17th 2009
On 4 June 2009 the Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) issued a call for evidence on the human rights compatibility of the Equality Bill, which was published by the UK Government on 27 April 2009. The Commission submitted evidence including a consideration of the place of human rights and equality in UK law, the relation of the Equality Bill and the Human Rights Act, and responses to several of the questions which JCHR asked the Solicitor General on the compatibility of specific provisions of the Bill with international human rights law.

June 20 sees the public introduction of the four members or the new Scottish Human Rights Commission and its moving into a shared office location with the GB Equalities and Human Rights Commission ("EHRC") in Glasgow.
